Shell Eco-marathon is a global competition that challenges university students to design, build and test ultra energy-efficient vehicles. The competition sparks debate about the future of mobility and aims to inspire young engineers to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency.
 
The visual identity we created for 2014’s competition focussed on the elements that each entry would comprise of, notably innovative thinking (Brain) and the support from Shell (Fuel canister) .
 
Given the technical nature of the event, and the audience predominantly made up of tech enthusiasts, we decided to add an additional feature to our design – Augmented reality.
 
Scanning the design with a smartphone, using a free App (Layar) brings the ‘brain’ to life transforming the static identity into a dynamic car. Furthermore it also links your smartphone to the Shell Eco-marathon website from where you can discover further information.
